Our Town
NYC 1985
Walking from West 57th to the train station.
The city was gritty back then
Times Square was not the Las Vegas light show
that it is today.
I remember feeling proud of myself
that I could navigate the city on my own.
I was seventeen.
Long before cell phones
and GPS
The only fold-out maps were
found in guidebooks
sold at the hundreds of book stores and bodegas dotting the city.
It’s all gone now
it was like the wild west
and I was a pioneer explorer
Bundled against the cold
Our Town
